Why do you need to do this?
Companies have legal duties to manage all contractors working for them, including checking that they meet appropriate health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. When you work as a subcontractor, they must confirm that you are competent, qualified, and insured β and that you will follow their safety and environmental procedures. If you use subcontractors, they also need to know that you're managing them responsibly and legally.
Build your response:
If you work alone: Simply state "I do not engage subcontractors" - this is completely acceptable.
If you use subcontractors:
Part 1: How do you verify and select contractors?
What do you check before engaging them? (licences, insurance, references)
What documents do you collect? (certificates, insurance policies, SWMS)
How do you verify their competency? (previous work, qualifications, site experience)
Part 2: How do you manage them on the job?
What safety information do you provide? (site rules, hazards, procedures)
How do you monitor their work? (spot checks, regular communication, quality reviews)
What do you do if they don't follow procedures? (stop work, retrain, replace)
Write 2-3 sentences: Either state you don't use subcontractors OR describe your actual process for selecting and managing them.
You need to provide details of how you currently manage any subcontractors you use.
β
If you work alone, just clearly state that. If you do use subcontractors occasionally, write down your process for checking and managing them. This can be included in your contractor management procedure or documented in a simple checklist.
