Overview

Child Projects allows organisations to create Parent Sites with Child Projects for better management of large, complex projects broken into smaller phases.

Key Concepts

  • Parent Site: Main site containing multiple child projects

  • Child Project: Sub-projects with specific scope and timeline

  • Display Projects Toggle: Switch between parent and child project views

  • Site Hierarchy: Parent-child organisational structure

Enabling Child Projects

Prerequisites

  • Administrator (Manage Organisation Details Permission) access to Account Settings

  • Understanding of current Site structure

Configuration Steps

1. Navigate to Account Settings β†’ Sites

2. Find "Enable Site Projects" setting

3. Toggle ON to enable hierarchy functionality

4. Save changes

Important Notes

  • Organisation-wide setting affects entire organisation

  • Existing sites can remain standalone or become parent sites

  • Display toggle is separate from core functionality settings

  • Permissions may need review after enabling

Planning Site Hierarchy

Before Creating Child Projects

Consider:

  • Project Scope: How to divide work logically

  • Timeline: Parent vs. individual project schedules

  • Resources: Staff and equipment allocation

  • Dependencies: Relationships between child projects

Best Practices

Parent Sites should:

  • Represent the overall project or location

  • Contain shared resources and common elements

  • Have an overarching timeline and coordination

Child Projects should:

  • Have specific work phases or areas

  • Include defined scope with clear deliverables

  • Feature individual timelines within the parent schedule

Configuration Workflow

  1. Enable Feature in Account Settings

  2. Plan Hierarchy structure and relationships

  3. Create Parent Sites or convert existing sites

  4. Create Child Projects under parent sites

  5. Configure Display preferences and train staff

User Permissions

Permission Structure

  • Staff can have different access for parent vs. child projects

  • Additional permissions can be assigned at child project level

Access Control

Parent Site Access: Executive oversight, resource management, strategic decisions
Child Project Access: Daily operations, specific deliverables, tactical implementation
