Setting Up the Kiosk Device

Written by Support

General best practice for locking down the device that runs the kiosk, so it stays on the sign-in page and ready for the next visitor.

Android and iOS platforms

  • Open the location's kiosk sign-in link in the device's browser (see Managing Locations (tied to QR Code Management)), then use its "Add to Home Screen" option. Launching from the home-screen icon hides the browser's address bar and toolbar, so the kiosk fills the whole screen.

  • Use a tablet dedicated to the kiosk, not one shared with staff for other tasks.

  • Mount it in landscape orientation at the entry point, within reach of power, and keep it on a reliable Wi-Fi connection.

  • Turn off notifications on the device so nothing pops up over the kiosk screen.

iOS / iPadOS

  • Turn off Auto-Lock (Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > Never) so the screen doesn't sleep between visitors.

  • Use Guided Access (Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access) to lock the device to the kiosk page — triple-click the side/Home button to start it, which disables the Home button/gestures so no one can leave the browser.

Android

  • Turn off screen timeout in Display settings.

  • For simple lockdown, use built-in Screen Pinning (Settings > Security > App Pinning).

  • For more control (recommended for unattended kiosks), use Fully Kiosk Browser & App Lockdown Help - Fully Kiosk Browser (Google Play or APK):

    • Set the location's kiosk sign-in link as the Start URL (Web Content Settings > Start URL)

    • Enable Kiosk Mode (PLUS licence) to lock the device to that page, disable the Home/volume buttons and status bar, and require a PIN to exit.

    • Android 12+ needs Device Provisioning (Device Owner mode) for reliable lockdown — plain Kiosk Mode alone isn't enough on newer Android versions.

    • Optional: Remote Administration (PLUS) for remote monitoring/restart across kiosks, and Settings Auto-Import to deploy the same config to multiple devices at once.
