Connect ComplyFlow to ChatGPT

Written by Support

Introduction

This guide shows you how to connect ChatGPT to ComplyFlow. Once it's connected, you can ask ChatGPT about your sites, suppliers, workers, incidents, inspections and more. ChatGPT can also make changes for you, once write access has been turned on for your organisation. Write access is available on request.

ChatGPT only sees what you can see in ComplyFlow.

Option

What you need

Available

A. ChatGPT desktop app

A Personal API Token, and Node.js 20 or later on your computer

Now

B. ChatGPT on the web, by signing in

Your ComplyFlow login. No token needed

Now

Before you start

  • You need the MCP / API token access permission, or Edit Organisation Details, in ComplyFlow. Refer to Giving staff access to AI assistants.

  • Check that your ChatGPT plan and workspace allow custom MCP connections. On business plans, a workspace admin may need to turn on developer mode first. Refer to OpenAI's help article Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT.

Option A: ChatGPT desktop app

Step 1: Create a Personal API Token

Create a token with the scopes you want ChatGPT to use. Refer to Creating and managing Personal API Tokens. Copy the token, which starts with cf_pat_. It's only shown once.

Step 2: Add ComplyFlow to ChatGPT

1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app and go to Settings > Plugins.

2. Select Add MCP Server.

3. Fill in the form:

Field

Enter

Name

ComplyFlow

Type

STDIO

Command to launch

npx

Arguments

Add two arguments, one at a time: -y, then select + Add argument and enter @complyflow/mcp-server

Environment variables

Add two, one at a time (see below)

Environment variable passthrough

Leave blank

Working directory

Leave blank

The first environment variable:

Key: COMPLYFLOW_API_URL
Value: https://app.complyflow.com.au/app/public/index.php/api/v2

Select + Add environment variable, then add the second:

Key: COMPLYFLOW_API_TOKEN
Value: cf_pat_your_token_here

Enter only the token itself, starting with cf_pat_. Don't put Bearer in front of it.

4. Select Save.

Step 3: Check it works

Start a new chat and ask: "Using ComplyFlow, who am I and what can I access?"

ChatGPT should reply with your name, your organisation and what your token can do. If you have access to every site, it may say you have 0 allowed sites. That's expected: the number only counts sites you've been assigned to.

The first time can take up to a minute while the server package downloads. If it fails, try once more.

Option B: ChatGPT on the web, by signing in

Connect by signing in to ComplyFlow. You don't need a token.

1. In ChatGPT, add a new custom MCP connection with the address https://mcp.complyflow.com.au/mcp, and choose OAuth for authentication.

2. ChatGPT opens the ComplyFlow sign-in page. Sign in the way you normally do.

3. If you belong to more than one organisation, choose the one to connect.

4. On Connect ChatGPT to ComplyFlow, check what ChatGPT will be able to do, and untick anything you don't want. Then select Allow access.

5. Back in ChatGPT, start a new chat and select ComplyFlow.

Refer to Signing in with an AI app or using a Personal API Token for how a sign-in connection works and how to disconnect it.

Change or remove the connection

  • Option A: to stop ChatGPT using ComplyFlow straight away, revoke the token in ComplyFlow under Personal API Tokens. To use a new token, edit the server in ChatGPT's Plugins settings and replace the COMPLYFLOW_API_TOKEN value.

  • Option B: go to Personal API Tokens > Connected apps in ComplyFlow and select Disconnect next to ChatGPT.
